Abstract
Kanazawa City, which has a special road environment, implements the use of bus lanes as part of its various schemes in traffic management including park-and-bus-ride systems, and self-discipline campaigns for not commuting by private cars, etc. to solve problems adversely affecting its social and economic activities due to chronic traffic congestion. Unlike cities in other prefectures, use of bus lanes by high-occupancy vehicles (HOVs) is allowed within the city as part of its efforts to relieve or reduce congestion, the background of which is discussed at length, together with future problems of promoting multilateral use of bus lanes
