Abstract
This paper proposes a signalling protocol architecture for the interface between a cell station (CS) and a digital network in the Personal Handy-phone System (PHS). The proposed architecture is an enhanced version of the ISDN user-network interface signalling protocol (DSS1: digital subscriber signalling system No.1). We propose that PHS specific functions, e.g. location registration, authentication and handover, are defined by using supplementary service operation to design the PHS that effectively uses existing ISDN facilities. In Japan, the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) has already published PHS standards for the CS-digital network interface based on our proposed signalling architecture
