Abstract :
Drought is one of the most happened natural hazards, which can cause the agriculture output of large areas to decrease dramatically and has been a bottleneck for sustainable development of agriculture. Recently, the drought problem in china is becoming serious and the drought resistant work is faced with huge challenge. It is critical to detect promptly and warn the drought situation accurately. With the unique advantages of being macroscopic, dynamic and fast, remote sensing has been becoming an indispensable mean for drought monitoring. This paper studied the features of remote sensing based drought monitoring, summarized four classes of methods for drought monitoring based on the normalized different vegetation index, the temperature, the combination of vegetation index and temperature and soil moisture. This paper also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of various methods, and discussed some future research directions of drought monitoring using remote sensing technologies.
