Abstract :
The LOTUS Project demonstrated real-time antipersonnel mine detection from a moving vehicle by an integrated suite of sensors, the MINEREC GPR Array, a Metal Detector Army and an Infrared Camera. Data was captured, analyzed and the different sensor outputs fused, all in real time. The output was used to drive a simple paint ground marking system on the rear of the vehicle. As the vehicle drove forward, paint marks indicated the mine positions. In a field trial in Bosnia, all the mines within the detection range of the system were marked and the false alarm rate was extremely low.
