Abstract
SCTP (stream control transmission protocol) compared to TCP, provides better performance due to its multihoming and multistreaming features. To ensure data transmission with SCTP enabling multistreaming, priority management is important and can improve protocol performance. In this paper we propose an extension for SCTP based on the fact that in wireless data transmission and multi-services networks such as UMTS, multimedia applications should benefit from more bandwidth than other applications. So we modify SCTP data chunk structure in order to introduce an inter-stream priority management that affects each stream to a relative level of importance that favors some data type over others. This extension contribute to improve the protocol performance in multi-services networks.
