Abstract :
The research and development of fuel cell technology has been conducted in HHI as the promising energy source since 1996. Two units of 200 kW-class PAFC system were introduced from ONSI, and tested at the HHI´s yard to investigate the features of the output electricity, the synchronization with the electric utility grid, the performance assessment of the heat recovery system, and the characteristic analysis of unit system. Later, one of the PAFC systems was installed at a hotel and tested to evaluate the performance and the possibility of commercial utilization. In the case of PEMFC, a 2 kW stack was designed to develop the PEMFC system and gain the key technologies of the system. At present, the system characteristics of a PEMFC system for 214-class submarines have been analyzed, and the fuel cell system packed with the methanol reformer has been investigated.
