Abstract :
In power systems, high voltage transmission lines and distribution lines link generating plants to end users. It is becoming necessary to use digital relays for transmission line protection. When faults occur in power transmission lines, quickly returning the transmission line to normal operation depends on whether the digital relay algorithm can identify correctly the fundamental phasor for fault location. In this work, a novel algorithm and strategy are applied to compute the fundamental phasor from fault signals. This strategy emphasizes in-time rather than real-time computation for fault location, and since the length of sampled fault signal data is limited by the trip of breaker, these data can be reused to obtain precise fundamental phasor. Computational results for real measurement data verify the performance of the proposed algorithm and strategy.
