Abstract
This paper presents a computer program developed to simulate an urban microcellular direct sequence CDMA radio network. An important tool in the research was the ray launching technique to predict the radio propagation in an urban microcell environment. The work consists of two different parts: the network simulation program and the ray launching program. In the network simulation program models for pedestrian behaviour, teletraffic, interference, power control, and handover have been developed. The network simulation program uses the propagation data calculated by the ray launching program. The ray launching program computes the radio channel impulse responses by utilising geometrical optics and the geometrical theory of diffraction. The characteristics of radio links between all mobile and base stations are predicted using the ray launching program
