Abstract :
Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) causes time and channel dependent pulse distortions in high-speed optical fiber communication systems and limits their transmission capacity. We designed a low power-consume DSP-based integrated control system using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to complete first-order PMD and second-order PMD compensation. The experiment results showed that the compensation time was shortened sharply with our compensation scheme.
