Abstract
The article is targeted towards understanding the residual timing error of over-the-air autonomous decentralized inter-basestation-synchronization system. The timing error of such a synchronization system is theoretically analyzed. The results are obtained in closed form. It is shown that the residual timing error is closely related to the propagation delay time and the weighting factors. The results of the closed form solution agree well with the computer simulation results. The stability and convergence speed for mean-weight variant of such a system is analyzed based on the theoretical analysis. It is shown that timing can converge very fast for mean-weight variant. The effect of weighting factor on timing error is also examined by computer simulation. The result shows that the residual timing error is affected by the received signal power level
