Abstract :
The author presents a study of the effects telecommunication technology can have on 76% of the world´s population in developing countries (Third World). A comparison is made between the supply of telephones and aggregate national economic activity as measured by gross domestic product (GDP). The macroeconomic evidence generally showed high correlations to GDP, indicating investment in telecommunications or an increase in GDP will be a benefit to society. The importance of education and new technologies is also discussed
