Abstract :
This paper provides a summary of the various tools that have been considered and utilized by the engineers at the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) in transmission expansion planning and operational studies. The tools described herein are typical but not limited for use in reliability and economic evaluation of transmission systems. It is not the intention of the CAISO engineers to endorse any specific tools, but rather illustrate the use of various tools for enhancing transmission system engineering studies.
