Abstract :
The trend in the number of road traffic accidents in Tokyo increased after 1980. New traffic signs using sensor technology are being developed in order to reduce traffic accidents. These signs are posted at high-risk intersections from the point of view of traffic safety. A stop sign, a pedestrian crossing sign and a crossing prohibition sign for pedestrians are presented in this paper. The sensor technology is applied to distinguish day time from night time, so as to detect approaching vehicles, and so on
