Abstract
Detection information given by vehicle detectors is sent to and read by a traffic signal controller to optimize control of traffic signals. Detection information is also transmitted to the traffic control center where the locations of traffic congestion are tracked down and the time occupancy for roads is computed. Data transmission both between a vehicle detector and a traffic signal controller and between a vehicle detector and a modem used to transmit data to the traffic control center is, in general, all achieved by wired link, usually using cables. The paper describes the use of the spread spectrum (SS)-type terminal section radio equipment as it has been confirmed that the equipment can be used as radio equipment with noise immunity to establish a reliable wireless data transmission system relating to vehicle detection information
