Abstract :
We developed a cut-in vehicle recognition system which uses image processing to cover the blind spot of the radar in the adaptive cruise control system. The developed recognition algorithm consists of two parts: the vehicle detection part and the vehicle tracking part. In the vehicle detection part, we used the density histogram of a differential image and pattern matching with a vehicle feature to decrease detection errors. In the vehicle tracking part, we renewed the pattern of a detected vehicle in proportion to vehicle size change. We evaluated the developed cut-in vehicle recognition algorithm and obtained a processing time of 52 ms and recognition rate of 92%
