  • Abstract
Optical wireless is an emerging technology with applications in fixed and mobile networks. In particular, it is beginning to be useful in areas such as marine, aircraft, and vehicular technologies. This review paper outlines some of these topics, especially automotive areas in which its particular advantages include versatility, ability to operate in confined spaces, immunity to electromagnetic interference, and low power. The latter is important as the energy crisis continues, and in electric transport where power consumption is at a premium also.
