Abstract
The environment protection management systems (EPMS), one of UTMS21 (universal traffic management systems), is administered by the National Police Agency. Its function is to reduce NOx and CO2 emitted by automobiles, thereby protecting the environment along the roadway. It does this by utilizing data on air pollution and vibrations to provide appropriate traffic information and signal controls. The result of experiments indicate that it is possible to reduce the roadside concentrations of NOx and CO2 if vehicle speeds are controlled so as to remain constant. These studies yield further improvements in the road traffic environment and eventually contribute to the protection of the global environment itself
