Abstract
Standard, “off the shelf” DC-DC power converters are growing in popularity. Their general ease of use reduces risk in new product development. However, specifying a power converter for a given application requires more than browsing a supplier´s selection guide. This paper is an introduction to often overlooked details that can make a significant performance difference in the end application. The importance of each is discussed and suggestions given to help the designer or purchasing agent make sure that the power converter being bought really meets the needs of the application
