Abstract :
This paper investigates the feasibility of using dynamic arc modeling of polluted insulators to characterize approaching flashover. The leakage current (LC) simulation results are compared to the measured leakage current, digitized during flashover test. It was observed that the harmonic content of the leakage current changes as the flashover approaches. This phenomenon could be explained by the mathematical analysis of the polluted insulator flashover. The results indicate the feasibility of assessment of pollution severity and flashover prediction, using the proposed methods
