Abstract :
Traffic microsimulation tools are now widely accessible and modelling in support of planning applications and as evidence in Transport Assessments is becoming common place. This paper questions the requirement to accurately model signal operation in microsimulation models and explores whether modelling using an adaptive control methodology results in a more accurate and ‘implementation friendly’ model. The article looks at available studies around the issues of signal control and its associated network behaviour as well as making some comparisons between real world data and a simulated intersection.
