Abstract
Linear design methods for state-quantity observers are used dominantly for power-electronic systems. The main reasons are the problems related to advanced approaches - namely complexity and the high time effort of the necessary stability prove and the design process. In observer and control design, the special characteristics of power-electronic systems are often neglected. The robustness and the quality - especially of the state estimations of the observer - can be improved by the pole-restraining observer (PRO) approach. In this paper, the novel approach is introduced and the mathematical background is given. The approach is applied to a single-phase converter. Simulation results illustrate the quality of the resulting estimated signals.
