  • Abstract
This paper provides a design scheme for a small-scale photovoltaic (PV) power system in an effort to cut the design cycle and cost while ensuring the system performance. A two-stage topology and a corresponding control strategy are analyzed and applied. A dual-core controller is applied in an 800W single-phase grid-connected PV power system. In this controller, one processor is an FPGA with the A/D sample and the PWM generator to process external signals, generate PWM and execute the grid-connected algorithm. The 8051 executes the MPPT algorithm, the anti-islanding algorithm and the application code. This two-module design is described in detail. At last, the experimental system is built. The two processors integrated in one chip can work independently but cooperatively. The PV power system is tested to achieve the design target and good performance.
