Title :
Measuring network performance with automatic test calls
Abstract :
Principles for measuring the overall quality of the Norwegian telephone network, how the results were evaluated, and experience from the use of a traffic route test system (TRTS) are discussed. The TRTS system consists of a center unit (TRTC) and numerous text units (TRTUs). The TRTC is placed in the operations center of a telecommunication area, while the TRTUs are connected to the exchanges as normal subscribers. The TRTC generates detailed test call patterns for each TRTU. At the end of the test the TRTC collects the results from the TRTUs. Numerous statistical and fault reports are generated and transmitted to the operations center for the maintenance staff. Other aspects of quality such as work priorities and economic concerns are also discussed
