Abstract :
This paper describes the results on the use of modal analysis to speed-up electromagnetic transient simulations. An energization study of a small test system having a long transmission line and a circuit breaker with a pre-insertion resistor are detailed presented. The simulations obtained through modal analysis were compared with those produced by a conventional electromagnetic transient program, showing good agreement. The modal analysis methodology has led to a much more efficient computation in this parametric study, as is shown in the paper.
