Abstract :
A soft-switching hybrid converter achieving zero-voltage switching over the full load-range and significant reduction in the filter requirement was proposed by R. Ayyanar et al. (see IEEE Trans. Power Electron., vol.16, p.184-200, 2001). It uses a combination of a normally uncontrolled section and a controlled section using two transformers to achieve the improved soft-switching characteristics and reduction in the filter requirement. This paper discusses in detail the start-up, short-circuit and dynamic characteristics of the hybrid converter, which were previously considered inferior to those of the conventional full-bridge converters
