Abstract :
A characterization of generalized polyphase representations (GPPs), which allow a greater freedom in designing multirate systems is developed. A particular application of GPPs, namely, in enhancing the coding gain of transform coding systems, is studied. The advantage of using GPPs is demonstrated for several inputs. The additional complexity of the new system is only slightly greater than that of the transform coding system, the difference being the higher number of delay elements used. Several properties of the new system are proved
