Abstract :
This paper presents the nature of system economics and reliability criteria for industry. Reliability and economics have been inextricably linked in the system design and operation since the industry was initiated. However, prior to the open access tariffs of the 1990´s, most of these economic decisions, and the associated judgments made about the reliability effects of those decision, took place within vertical integrated companies.
