Abstract :
The strength of tuff is seriously affected by water. Researching the collapse course and the collapse mechanism of tuff in different liquids, and making clear the mechanism of the effect, are the basic academic base of making sure the safety of engineering. On the base of the collapse experimentation of dipping the tuff samples into several kind of liquids, results: The collapse speed sequence from fast to slow is:water,50% aquiferous ethanol, acetone, 97%ethanol, oleic acid, benzene and diesel oil, and in not polarity liquids such as oleic acid, benzene or diesel oil, the tuff can keep it´s stabilization and no collapse occurred. The tuff have many polarity salts, these soluble salts are important material factor in the tuff collapse process, the polarity of molecule is the main effect to the collapse of tuff. Some other mechanism analysis and engineering measures are put forward also.
