Abstract :
This paper examines satellite services that are expected be available within five years. The role of satellite systems to provide integrated network access to the end user is explored. Another area examined is the convergence of telecommunications services to the Internet and the use of satellites for access to the Internet. New satellite services, from companies such as Teledesic, are discussed. The systems are compared and some analysis provided to determine the potential benefits they provide to military users. Potential new uses for satellites to provide broadband access to mobile subscribers are examined. The research in these areas revealed a high potential for the success of the new satellite services. The satellite industry has recognized the demand for better and cheaper services. Their satellite systems are now trying to cover the gaps left by terrestrial services and even exploit the users´ desire for small easy-to-use systems. With the introduction of the new satellite systems, users are now able to travel around the globe and stay network connected
