Abstract :
The impact of inter-band crosstalk due to nonlinear fibre transmission on the performance of direct-detection single-sideband multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplexing metro networks is evaluated through numerical simulation for one optical channel. Distortion powers with single-band and with five bands are compared. The number of independent signal runs required to achieve accurate performance estimates is assessed. An average over 16 independent signal runs is shown enough to guarantee an error vector magnitude (EVM) discrepancy not exceeding 0.5 dB from the average EVM obtained with 32 independent signal runs. Inter-band crosstalk due to nonlinear transmission of 5 bands over 240 km of standard single-mode fibre limits the average power at the fibre input to levels not exceeding -2.5 dBm.
