Abstract :
We have been proposing to use a closed cycle disk MHD (CCMHD) generator as an alternative of an open cycle linear generator for applications to portable pulsed power supply. High reliability and high durability can be expected with this CCMHD system due to relatively lower gas temperature with high electrical performance. Dynamic behavior of CCMHD generator at the self-excited mode was studied numerically. Stable with high-efficiency operation can be expected. Optimization of operating condition was carried out to minimize start up time. Predicted rise time was shorter than 5 seconds. Applicability of this CCMHD system to electro-magnetic launcher has been examined.
