Abstract :
A beam of light passing through a volume of particulate media will be scattered and absorbed, so its intensity will be reduced and fluctuate as well. A mathematical model for output light intensify is first introduced. Then the mathematical expectation and the variance of output light intensity is derived. A relationship between scintillation and particulate concentration is obtained. Since the mathematical expectation and variance of output light intensity can be electrically measured, the particulate concentration in the stack airflow can be determined
