Abstract :
The premier infrastructure of the information technology is the Internet. The future Internet is a multimedia communication network. However, no control results in no quality in the multimedia Internet. Admission control is one of the most important control mechanisms in the Internet. Therefore, this paper develops an integrated curve that can universally stand for the requirement of a source. If this curve, called requirement curve, is under the curve that stands for the available resource of the communication network, called availability curve, then the call of the source is admitted. According to the literatures, we find the requirement curve is the convolution of the curve standing for the arrival process of the source and the curve standing for the service requirement of the source. Additionally, we proposes a universal requirement curve called a jumping piecewise linear requirement curve. In this paper, the characteristics of the jumping piecewise linear requirement curve is observed and derived. Based on these observations, a CAC algorithm similar to Firoiu´s algorithm can be employed to decide whether the call should be accepted or not.
