Abstract
The cdma2000™ standard introduces an optional supplemental channel (SCH) in addition to the fundamental channel (FCH). The SCH provides high data rates (up to 307.2 kbps) to the users to which it is allocated. The system resources that an SCH consumes are proportional to its data rate. Typically, a scheduler is used to allocate these resources to a number of users. Burst assignment of the SCH is allowed in the cdma2000 standard. In this paper, we consider the consequences of the SCH burst duration on system performance. Specifically, we explore the effects of burst duration on forward link transmit power and user achieved data throughput.
