Abstract
An optically controlled microwave phase shifter was designed and made for the investigation of a possibility of changing a microwave signal phase using a stand alone light source. The shifter was a reflection type circuit. A laser diode and an optical fibre were used to transmit the light steering a PIN photodiode. The photodiode was set to work together with a varactor diode in an indirect mode of operation. The reflection and the phase shift of the circuit vs. the optical power and the frequency relationships were measured and investigated
