A Macao license plate recognition system based on edge and projection analysis

This paper presents a system to recognize Macao license plates. Edge analysis and vertical / horizontal projection methods are the major methods used in the algorithm. The proposed algorithm is able to resolve general problems such as complex background and rotation, as well as country specific challenges such as multiple types of plates and disunity of character fonts. This work achieves a high accuracy rate of about 92%.
