Abstract
A mathematical model was developed to study the physiological determinants of the transmitral velocity pattern from the early to the late diastolic phase. The mathematical model is based on a coupled system of differential equations implemented by fourth order Runge-Kutta integration using a personal microcomputer. The influence of 14 different input physiological variables on the transmitral velocity curve can be studied. The model can also analyze the reflex changes that can occur in response to primary changes in physiological variables to preserve cardiac output. This model will help with the analysis of Doppler indices used for the noninvasive assessment of the ventricular diastolic function
