Abstract :
This paper demonstrates a methodology based on a combined deterministic and probabilistic approach for bulk system adequacy assessment considering proposed wind power generation addition in the Northern Region of British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) System. The paper illustrates a technique for assessing effective load carrying capability (ELCC) and generation capacity equivalence (GCE) based on generation system adequacy assessment (HL-I analysis). A traditional deterministic approach is utilized initially to grant the GCE value obtained in the HL-I analysis as the amount of additional transmission system transfer capability (TC) required for wind power generation. A composite generation and transmission system adequacy assessment (HL-II analysis) is then used to verify the adequacy of the increased TC that is capable of maintaining the same level of system reliability. In addition, an economic analysis for providing an additional TC for wind power generation is also illustrated in the paper.
