Abstract
An optimal torque control system is proposed for single-phase induction motors using a switching capacitor in the motor auxiliary winding. The switching capacitor is controlled such that both a high average torque and a low peak pulsating torque over the entire speed range are ensured. A DSP implementation of the proposed system is carried out and the experimental results are presented to evaluate the system. The results confirm that the motor performance under the proposed system is improved substantially in comparison with a constant capacitor motor
