Abstract
One of the main problems in the computer area, more specifically in the hypermedia area, is related to the information overload. This is because most of the hypermedia systems are not developed taking the heterogeneous needs of the users into account. These systems are made essentially to show all the information to every user. It is known that each user has different levels of knowledge, goals, abilities, and preferences, being necessary a little part of all this information. This fact emphasizes the need of developing systems which can be adapted to different types of users. As the description of the knowledge and features of the user involves uncertainness and imprecise sense, the fuzzy theory can be applied in order to deal with this vagueness. This paper proposes the use of the fuzzy theory to decrease the problem about information overload in hypermedia systems, using fuzzy inference to provide personalization of the users.
