Abstract :
In this paper, we first study the impact of non-zero packet error rates caused by corruption in a radio channel on the packet retransmission probability and system throughput known from the literature, which mostly considers only packet collisions, and provide a revised mathematical expression. Then, using the new throughput expression for a one-station system, we approximately relate the actual station throughput with the normalized station throughput in terms of packet-available probability for a specific traffic type, particularly, when packets of different lengths are used for transmission through a channel with non-zero packet error rates under the CSMA/CA backoff procedure with a multiple-variable contention window.
