Abstract :
This article presents a DC-link based AC-voltage regulator topology and a control strategy which overcomes the known problems in AC-voltage regulator topologies which are based on bi-directional switches. The article starts with a review of the different principles for current commutation in high frequency AC-voltage regulators with bi-directional switches. The DC-link topology is presented, and control and modulation principles, are discussed. The proposed modulation principle reduces the losses. Saber simulations and sample results of a practical implementation are used to validate the performance of the topology. Finally, a comparison of the characteristics for high frequency ac-voltage regulators are presented
