Abstract :
The complex experimental studies of the positive discharge mechanism in transformer oil have shown the presence of a primary channel in the transition zone. This "primary" or "elementary" channel is attached to the potential electrode and appears to be an essential element of the discharge process. As such, it should be accounted for while elaborating the general physical picture of the breakdown in liquids.
