Abstract :
Power electronic converters are an essential part of airborne time domain electromagnetic (TEM) systems used in mineral exploration industry. In this paper, a LabVIEW based converter control is proposed and implemented to achieve better control of the transmitter (Tx) coil current. The converter topology and proposed control is used to achieve the targeted fall time (100μs) at the end of current pulse. An optimized LabVIEW code and constant ON-Time current control is implemented to achieve sampling times as low as 2 μs. The comparison of experimental results with MATLAB simulation results validates the effectiveness of the control scheme. The proposed system utilizes reduced number of elements and deploys FPGA based faster and flexible control.
