Abstract
Recently, it has been shown that an asymmetric nanoscale deformation of translationally symmetric optical fibres can cause strong localization of whispering gallery modes. In particular, a whispering gallery mode nanobump microresonator has been introduced and its theory was developed. In this presentation, the spectral properties of resonators created by more complex nanoscale deformations of the optical fibre surface and refractive index (e.g., multi-bump resonators and resonators with harmonic azimuthal effective radius variation) are investigated. The results are important for the design and fabrication of SNAP (Surface Nanoscale Axial Photonics) devices which are created by permanent or temporal nanoscale local deformation of optical fibres.
