Abstract :
In this paper a new starting system for three-phase induction motors has been presented. The proposed starting system uses a part-winding and capacitors to start up, run and improve the power factor. A two dimensional finite element magnetodynamic model of a three-phase induction motor has been used to analyze the proposed motor configuration. Several steady-state and time stepping simulations were done, and they demonstrate the proposed motor has a starting line current of 60% of the conventional motor starting current and starting torque about 50% of the conventional motor starting torque. It is also demonstrated the full-load efficiency of the proposed motor is the same as the conventional motor full-load operation and the power factor of the proposed motor is near to the unity.
