Abstract :
The metro network in China´s metropolitan areas has taken shape. In view of this, it is important to understand the traffic pattern for improvement of the operation, organization, and management practice. Station-to-station OD matrix, a basic and core element for calculating and gathering statistics of other traffic indicators, is fundamental to the overall analysis of metro network operation. Current research on OD matrix estimation modeling is primarily focused on regional OD matrix rather than station-to-station OD matrix. The current study develops a station-to-station OD matrix estimation model and its algorithm in two scenarios: with IC card data and without IC card data, respectively. In the scenario that IC card data are not available, the method is then discussed to estimate the general OD matrix, using the Fratar model, in accordance with station-to-station OD matrix samples derived from investigation. In the scenario that IC card data are available, the passenger behavior in route selection is simulated using the Logit model and the algorithm of station-to-station OD matrix is estimated. In the end, the proposed algorithm is tested and analyzed using the data collected from the metro traffic survey. The algorithm proves to be effective in estimating the station-to-station OD matrix within a relatively short period of time.
