Abstract :
We present a study of mid-infrared photoluminescence emitted from Tb3+:GeAsGaSe chalcogenide bulk glass and fibre. Absorption and emission cross-sections were calculated based on measured results. The decay characteristic related to the potential laser transition 7F57F6 has been measured and investigated. The observed high values of emission and absorption cross-sections and long lifetime from the level 7F57F6 indicate that this glass is a good candidate for future development of a mid-infrared fibre laser.
