Abstract :
We present a study of mid-infrared photoluminescence emitted from Tb3+:GeAsGaSe chalcogenide bulk glass and fibre. Absorption and emission cross-sections were calculated based on measured results. The decay characteristic related to the potential laser transition 7F5 → 7F6 has been measured and investigated. The observed high values of emission and absorption cross-sections and long lifetime from the level 7F5 → 7F6 indicate that this glass is a good candidate for future development of a mid-infrared fibre laser.
