Abstract :
Stray load losses have two effects, firstly they produce additional heat and secondly they may reduce the torque produced by the machine. In both cases the real cost is borne by the customer. The author discusses the thermal and revenue effects, the sources of stray load losses and their measurement and calculation. Standards related to stray load loss levels and the need for energy conservation are also discussed
