Abstract :
The nonlinear passive dynamic stability of fruit fly hovering is investigated by coupling the equations of 6DOF (Degree Of Freedom) motion and Navier-Stokes equations. We develop not only mathematical models to represent the instantaneous aerodynamic forces and moments based on Fourier series, but also a nonlinear dynamic model to solve the equations of 6 DOF motion by a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method with mathematical models. With these models, the responses to one equilibrium-condition (in hovering flight) and six one-dimensional disturbance conditions in six directions of motion of body are studied in terms of flight trajectory and body attitude.
